Caption with Carol Ivie picture in print edition: The good news: Jane Wyman of Menlo Park, a 30-year patron of Wessex Books, was delighted to find a copy of "The Afterlife" by Penelope Fitzgerald. The bad news: the shop is closing because owner Tom Haydon wants to do something different and could not find a buyer. The liquidation sale, with 50 percent off all remaining books and records, began April 29 at the shop at 558 Santa Cruz Ave. and will continue until everything is sold.
