Two men hijack bread truck
(June 01, 2005)at gunpoint in wee hours
Menlo Park police are looking for two men who hijacked a bread truck at gunpoint in east Menlo Park and escaped with the driver's personal cash in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 24.
Shortly after 2 a.m., while parked in front of Togo's restaurant at 885 Hamilton Ave., the driver of the bread truck reported being accosted by two men, their faces hidden by bandannas, said Officer Scott Mackdanz of the Menlo Park Police Department. One reportedly carried a rifle.
The men demanded money, forced the driver out of the truck and into the store, then drove off in the truck with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
The driver, who was uninjured, called 911. Menlo Park police arrived a few minutes later and found the truck idling nearby, undamaged and with its contents intact.
An extensive search of the area failed to turn up the suspects, police said. Officers from the East Palo Alto and Atherton police departments assisted in the search.
Police are looking for two black men, 18 to 25 years old black, of thin build and about 5 feet, 7 inches tall. At the time of the robbery, they were wearing black hooded sweatshirts.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Menlo Park Police Department at 330-6300.
