Girl still critical after motorcycle crash
(June 15, 2005) A 17-year-old girl was still clinging to life and in a coma as of last Monday after the motorcycle she was a passenger on crashed on Canada Road in Woodside on Wednesday, June 8.
The driver of the stolen motorcycle, Stephen Victor Frederick, 20, of Redwood City, was arrested and booked on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, causing great bodily harm; driving a stolen vehicle; and evading the police after he lost control of the bike in the 1000 block of Canada Road and he and the girl were ejected.
Lt. Lisa Williams of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said on Monday, shortly before the Almanac's press time, that the girl, whose identity has not been released, was in critical condition. The driver was taken to the hospital with several broken bones, and later released.
The accident occurred at about 8:25 p.m., after a sheriff's deputy saw the motorcycle speeding, according to a Sheriff's Office report.
Mr. Frederick evaded the deputy, who attempted to pull him over, and the deputy lost sight of the motorcycle, the report said.
A few minutes later, the deputy came across the accident scene, and emergency crews from the Woodside Fire Protection District were called out to provide first aid.
The motorcycle had been reported stolen on June 5 from Redwood City.
Sheriff's Office investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the incident to call 363-4915, or Sgt. Denny Scott at 363-4680.
