Atherton gets funds for train station, shuttle Atherton gets funds for train station, shuttle (June 15, 2005)

Atherton may be losing its weekday train service under Caltrain's new schedule, but it will be getting sales tax money to improve the station.

In adopting a $73.5 million operating budget June 2, the San Mateo County Transportation Authority included $3.5 million to build new boarding platforms at Atherton and Burlingame, where stations are threatened with closure.

The budget also includes $275,000 for weekday shuttle service to take riders from the closed stations to active stations. Atherton passengers will be able to ride free to and from Redwood City to take the train.

The Transportation Authority, which allocates money raised by the county's Measure A half-cent sales tax for transportation, also approved $11.7 million for local street and highway improvements, and $6.4 million for upgrades to Caltrain. Two grade-separation projects in San Bruno will get $15 million.

Redi-Wheels and RediCoast, which provide paratransit services for people with disabilities will receive $834,000.
