Graduation 2005: Amphitheater setting for Woodside School graduation
(June 15, 2005) Woodside School's amphitheater will be the setting for the eighth-grade graduation that begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 17.
The Woodside School Band, directed by Amanda Negrete, will play Edward Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstances" for the processional as the eighth-graders enter the amphitheater.
Students Lois Viggi and Bryce Cronkite-Ratcliff will lead their classmates, families and friends in the salute to the flag and the singing of the national anthem.
Dr. Daniel Vinson, superintendent/principal, and Trustee Kimberly McMorrow will give the welcome.
The Class of 2005 has chosen to sing "Wonderwall" by Robbie Williams and the Oasis Brothers as its "class song."
Student speeches will begin with Jack Mudd and Bryana Georgakas talking about "Future Safety Kit"; Bryce Cronkite-Ratcliff, "W.E.S. -- The High Road -- The Challenge"; Madaline Goldstein's "This Is My Lanyard." Michael Baskin's title is "Vaulting Ambition" and Alexandra Miller's is "This Night."
Earlier at the eighth-grade luncheon, hosted by the seventh-grade parents, eighth-graders giving speeches with their titles are: Virginia Miller and Lola Viggi, "The Sunflower"; Joseph Shaffer, "A Loving Community"; Benjamin Kahramin, "Lessons Learned from Life"; and Alexa Crandall and Julia Gessow, "Peering into the Future."
During the ceremony, several awards will be presented to class members. Presenters and awards are: Ellyn Rubin, academic; Gordon Collet, athletic; Karen Arimoto-Peterson, community service; and Amanda Negrete, music. Lori Livingston, trustee of the Woodside School District, will present the Trustees Award.
School Trustee Tom Mudd will give the commencement address.
Bob Sherman, assistant principal, will present the Class of 2005 to Superintendent/Principal Vinson and Bettina Pike, president of the Woodside School District's Board of Trustees. They will present students with their diplomas.
A reception for the graduates, their families and guests will begin immediately
after the ceremony.
