Youth football: Vikings near signup deadline
The Menlo-Atherton Vikings youth football program is completing signups for the 2005 Pop Warner season.
Youngsters 7 through 15 compete in at least four separate divisions, and this season the Vikings plan to add another category -- Tiny Mites -- for players as young as 6. Bill Tarr, a veteran of several Pop Warner campaigns, will head the Tiny Mite coaching staff.
Over the past two seasons, Vikings teams have won a Northwest Regional Championship and reached Peninsula Conference finals. This year, 14 Vikings were named to the Peninsula Conference Scholastic Hall of Fame.
Signup deadline is July 15, and practice begins August 1 at Menlo-Atherton High School.
Registration forms are available at mapopwarner.com. Information also may be obtained on the team hotline, 562-1950, or from Viking President Bob Williams at 996-0030.
