The Little League champions of the Menlo-Atherton Majors Division, Lutticken's, defeated the champions of the Alpine/West Menlo league, Hengehold Truck Rental, 5-4 in a "Tournament of Champions" game held Saturday, June 18, at Ford Field in Portola Valley.
Coaches Chandler Eason and John Hertze will now lead Lutticken's to the championship game of the tournament on Tuesday, June 21, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Ford Field.
Lutticken's opponent will be Half Moon Bay (Fire House 9), which defeated San Carlos, 6-4, in the first game of the championship series on Saturday.
In the Lutticken's/Hengehold contest, Hengehold went out ahead in the top of the second, 3-0, with runs scored by Louis McCabe, Andrew Zaky and Jason Cortella.
In the bottom of the fourth, Lutticken's scored five times, following a lead-off triple by Casey Eason. Chace Warren and Tommy Cummings each had a single (one RBI each), and Nick Henze, Tom Schertler and Taylor Chadwick drew walks.
After a quick, scoreless fifth inning, Hengehold attempted to even the score but was able to bring in only one more run in the sixth.
Eason was the winning pitcher for Lutticken's.
Hengehold was scheduled to play a consolation game with San Carlos Monday night, June 20, after the Almanac's deadline.
Lutticken's will play Hengehold, again, in the annual July Fourth game, starting at 11 a.m. at Burgess Field in Menlo Park.
