Alice Malquist

Former family history director

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 30, for Alice Niven Malquist of Menlo Park, who died of ovarian cancer June 11. She was 73.

The service will take place at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 1105 Valparaiso Ave. in Menlo Park.

Ms. Malquist was born in Tampico, Mexico, and raised in Mexico City. She spent vacations and holidays at the family cattle ranch in the jungles of Mexico at Micos.

She was valedictorian of her class at the American School in Mexico City. She attended Stanford University, where she met her future husband, Grant L. Malquist. In 1950 they were married and moved to San Mateo. They have resided in Menlo Park for the past 40 years.

Ms. Malquist was an active member of the Menlo Park Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many teaching positions.

She was the first director of the Family History Center at the Menlo Park Stake. She was historical secretary for the Silicon Valley Personal Ancestral File and chief financial officer for her husband's New York Life Insurance office.

Ms. Malquist is survived by her husband of 55 years, Grant of Menlo Park; daughter Carolyn Malquist of Menlo Park; son Kenneth Malquist of Orlando, Florida; and four grandchildren.

Interment will be at Alta Mesa Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller Hapgood & Tinney.

Leon Bostic

Former Menlo Park resident

Leon Bostic of Palo Alto, who lived in Menlo Park from 1959 to 1972, died June 12 at age 79.

Mr. Bostic was born in Anniston, Alabama. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

For 25 years he worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Palo Alto. He was also an insurance agent and worked for the water department of East Palo Alto.

Mr. Bostic is survived by his five sons, Teman, Michael, Tabbert and George Bostic, all of Menlo Park, and Charles Bostic of Livermore; and 13 grandchildren.

Services were held June 20 at Mt. Olive AOH Church of God in Menlo Park. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller Hapgood & Tinney.
