Botanical art exhibit at Filoli Botanical art exhibit at Filoli (June 29, 2005)

From July 8 to August 27, Filoli will showcase 71 original botanical art paintings by 39 artists. This will be the seventh annual botanical art exhibit at the historic Woodside estate.

Local artists include Lee McCaffree and Catherine Watters. Ms. McCaffree has won medals for a series of paintings exhibited at the Royal Horticultural Society in London. Ms. Watter has illustrated five books and serves on the board of directors of the American Society of Botanical Artists.

The exhibit will be on display in the main ballroom of the mansion and in the Visitor and Education Center. There is no extra charge for visitors who have paid admission to the estate.

Filoli also offers botanical art workshops for adults and children. A kids' class will be held Saturday, August 20, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $30 for members; $35 for others.

Adult classes will include watercolor skills workshops, introduction to botanical art, a master botanical art workshop and focus workshops on delphiniums and pumpkins, squash and gourds. Call 364-8300, ext. 508, for more details or to register by phone.
