Summer activity constant at Hidden Villa preserve
(June 29, 2005) Hidden Villa, the 1,600-acre wilderness preserve in Los Altos Hills, will be bustling with activity for all ages this summer.
More than 900 youths, ages 6 to 18, are expected to participate in the 60th annual summer camp program. During three 12-day sessions that began on June 20 and end on August 22, campers will reside at Hidden Villa to hike, garden and tend to farm animals.
Closed to the public during the summer camp period, Hidden Villa has set aside four weekends when the preserve will be open for public use from 9 a.m. to dusk: July 2 and 3; July 16 and 17; July 23 and 24; and August 6 and 7.
A range of events will be held on these dates, including multicultural craft workshops for children ages 9 and above; a guided meditation and silent hike for adults; and a stargazing party for families with the Peninsula Astronomical Society.
Throughout the summer months, Hidden Villa will set up roadside stands on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons to sell organic produce grown on the preserve.
Hidden Villa will reopen to the public on August 23. San Jose Taiko, a Japanese drumming group, will perform on Sunday, August 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to kick off the nature preserve's new season.
