Burgess Park will be the place to be this week for folks who love sports demonstrations, Latin pop, free snow cones, and injury-defying feats on skateboards.

To celebrate widespread renovations at the park in Menlo Park's Civic Center, a week of activities will be held. Here's the scoop:

** Tuesday, June 28 , 5 to 6:30 p.m.: Grand opening of new 15,000-square-foot skate park.

** Wednesday, June 29 , 6 to 8:30 p.m.: Music from Latin pop group Orquesta d'Soul, ice cream sundaes, souvenir cups.

** Thursday, June 30 , 6 to 7:30 p.m.: Showcase of city programs: gymnastics, ballroom dance, martial arts, tap dance, Show Biz Dance. Free popcorn and snow cones.

** Friday, July 1 , noon to 2 p.m.: Free picnic of hot dogs, chips and sodas; bounce houses for children.

** Saturday, July 2 , noon to 2 p.m.: Professional skateboarders' demonstration, soccer clinics, free-throw contests, opening of renovated tennis courts. Free pizza and sodas, skate gear giveaways.
