News Briefs: Boys robbed at gun point in Menlo Park
(June 29, 2005) Three men robbed three boys at gun point as the boys were hanging around near Pierce Road and Carlton Avenue in Menlo Park at about 11:15 p.m. Friday, June 24, said Sgt. Mike Amaral of the Menlo Park Police Department.
The men, one of whom had a hand gun, approached the boys, then one of the men yanked a chain from the neck of one boy, said Sgt. Amaral. They also stole the two cell phones the boys were carrying and fled on foot.
No action yet on sergeants' claim
No action has yet been taken on a claim that two former Menlo Park police sergeants have filed against the city and City Manager David Boesch. The two said he tarnished their reputations by comments attributed to him by a local newspaper.
Eric Cowans and Paul Kunkel are seeking a public apology in the form of a city-financed advertisement in the Palo Alto Daily News, the paper that quoted Mr. Boesch as saying that at least one of the two was "a low performer."
They are also seeking unspecified financial damages, according to the claim. The city has given the Almanac a copy of the claim, but City Attorney Bill McClure declined to comment on it. He said he's in communication with the sergeants' attorney.
