Magazine salesman reaches plea deal on elder assault
(July 06, 2005) A magazine salesman who assaulted an 80-year-old woman last October in her Menlo Park apartment agreed to a plea bargain June 28 in San Mateo County Superior Court.
D'Angelo Langford, 19, a Georgia native, pleaded no contest to two felonies -- assault with intent to commit rape, and elder abuse with the infliction of great bodily injury, said Deputy District Attorney Mary Allhiser.
Mr. Langford could face between two and 11 years in prison. A sentencing hearing is set for 8:45 a.m. August 25.
The elderly woman reported that Mr. Langford seized her as she briefly stepped outside her apartment in the 900 block of Alice Lane. He led her toward her bedroom, beating her along the way, then pushed her onto the bed and tried to remove her blouse.
Upon hearing the victim's screams, her neighbor, Denise Weinert, ran to her aid, saw Mr. Langford, and called the police.
Mr. Langford fled and was arrested at about 11 p.m. that night in Palo Alto. He was then identified by Ms. Weinert as the attacker.
