Former Menlo Park City Clerk Jaye Carr dies after long illness
(July 06, 2005) Former longtime Menlo Park City Clerk Jaye M. Carr died June 30 in Redwood City after a long battle with cancer. The Albany, New York, native was 64.
Ms. Carr retired in 1999 after working for the city of Menlo Park for 28 years.
Her first job was as a part-time employee at the library in 1971. Serving 15 years as a city clerk, and five years before that as the assistant city clerk, Ms. Carr was a fixture at City Council meetings, and for many people, the city's key liaison with the public.
At the time of her retirement, her daughter remarked that she had spent more than a third of her life as a city employee. More than 100 people attended her retirement party at the Menlo Park Recreation Center.
In 1995 Ms. Carr received the prestigious "Golden Acorn" award from the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce.
Ms. Carr is survived by her husband, George, a retired Atherton police sergeant, children Jennifer Frew of Danville and son Chris Carr of Windsor, California; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be announced later.
