Fremont Park tunes up for summer shows
(July 06, 2005) Fremont Park in downtown Menlo Park may be tiny, but it gets downright lively each year as the site of the city's annual summer concert series.
Wednesday shows at Fremont begin on July 6 and run through August 17, offering free performances from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. by bands from such genres as jazz, funk and swing. Folks attending often bring picnics and blankets.
The first band scheduled to appear is Jello Hat, a hillbilly rock group. On July 13, Solid Air, billed by city officials as an "Americana folk" band, will play.
The Invasion storms the park on July 20 with "'60s British invasion" music, and Blue Sol offers up R&B and funk on July 27.
Jazz and blues vocalist Pamela Rose will croon August 3, followed by a big band swing show from the Bob Saul Orchestra on August 10. The last concert will be by 5 O'Clock Shadow, which performs "rockin' blues."
Fremont Park is located at the corner of Santa Cruz Avenue and University Drive. For more information, go to menlopark.org or call 330-2200.
