No injuries, but 2 arrested in Menlo shooting, stakeout No injuries, but 2 arrested in Menlo shooting, stakeout (July 06, 2005)

** No injuries, but two are arrested.

Two Menlo Park men were arrested following an exchange of gunfire from two vehicles near the intersection of Willow Road and Newbridge Street in Menlo Park at around 10:15 p.m. June 27, and the subsequent stakeout of a house in the 700 block of Hamilton Avenue.

No injuries were reported, but bullet holes were found in a wall of Quality Market on Willow Road and in a passenger door of a vehicle found parked in the driveway of the house.

Police found an AK-47 assault rifle under the vehicle, and another assault rifle and three handguns in the house.

Arrested were Mitchell Foreman, 51, charged with violating parole; and William Nero, 26, charged with possession of an assault rifle and possession of marijuana for sale.
Stakeout

Following the shooting, police were led to the house, where about eight people stood clustered around the vehicle, said Acting Sgt. Kevin Paugh.

When police arrived, several people fled into the house, he said, and police set up the stakeout.

A Redwood City police SWAT team and officers from East Palo Alto, Palo Alto and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office were called in.

In a five-hour operation during which nearby homes were evacuated but no shots were fired, the officers discovered that the house was empty.

Anyone with information regarding the incidents is asked to call Menlo Park police Officers Hinkston or Butler at 330-6300 or the anonymous tip line at 330-6395.
