Sheriffs arrest boys after car chase

San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies captured two boys suspected of car theft after a high-speed car chase, an escape on foot and a confrontation in a Menlo Park swimming pool.

Deputies arrested a 16-year-old boy from Menlo Park and a 17-year-old boy from East Palo Alto around 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, after tracking them to an apartment swimming pool on Coleman Place in Menlo Park, said Lt. Ken Jones of the Sheriff's Office.

The boys, whose names were not released, were booked into the Hillcrest juvenile facility on charges that include possession of stolen property and evading police.

The boys surrendered peacefully, but denied the charges and said they had been in the pool all afternoon, Lt. Jones said.
