Cover story: Class act -- Kids are always a hit at the annual Menlo Charity Horse Show
(August 17, 2005) Text with photos in print edition:
The most popular event at the annual Menlo Charity Horse Show, held last week at the Menlo Circus Club, is always the lead-line class, where children 6 and under are led on a walk around the area by an older person on foot.
Proud parents and grandparents gathered to cheer the tiny competitors, who often gave their audience a royal wave. The children all turned out to be winners. Each was given a stuffed plush pony, adorned with a blue ribbon.
Final figures are not in yet, but it looks as if the horse show will raise $400,000 for its favorite nonprofit, The Peninsula Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The Friday dinner and auction alone raised $100,000.
