Business: Ribbon-cutting for Menlo hardware store Business: Ribbon-cutting for Menlo hardware store (August 24, 2005)

Members of the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce, the mayor and other local luminaries gathered last week to welcome a new retailer to the Santa Cruz Avenue business district.

The grand opening of Menlo Park Hardware -- with the big scissors, the ribbon cutting and the obligatory group photo -- took place shortly after 10 a.m. Friday, August 19.

The new store is smaller than the previous store, which closed in September 2001, but the shelves are higher so it works out to about the same amount of goods, said manager Vasile Oros.

The Menlo Park Presbyterian Church sublets the front of the building to the hardware store, with the rear reserved as a church meeting room. A hallway connects the store to parking in back.

Barbara Field, who lives on Hermosa Way, said she was thrilled. "If you need a little something, you won't have to get in the car and go to Redwood City or Palo Alto," she said.
