The world premiere of "Songs of a Soul Journey" will be featured, together with classical works for duo pianists, at a free concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, August 27, in Hanson Hall at The Sequoias retirement community, 501 Portola Road in Portola Valley.

The cycle of love poems by Bay Area poet and vocalist Elizabeth Eliassen will be sung by Bay Area mezzo-soprano Linda Liebschutz.

The program will also feature compositions by Strauss and Brahms played by Lindsey Huff and Ken Malucelli. In addition, international touring duo-pianists Patricia and Vera Purcell will make a guest appearance playing works by Brahms and Bernstein.

Panel reviews history of computer chess

A panel will discuss the history of computer chess at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 8, at the Computer History Museum, 1401 N. Shoreline Blvd. in Mountain View.

Panel members include Murray Campbell, project member for Deep Blue, IBM's chess-playing supercomputer; and Edward Feigenbaum, a Stanford artificial intelligence researcher.

The presentation, held in conjunction with a new museum exhibit on the history of computer chess, is free, with a suggested donation of $10 for non-members. Reservations are required. Check computerhistory.org/events, or call 810-1036.
