More molestation allegations against Menlo Park man
(August 31, 2005) The arraignment of Menlo Park resident William Giordano, who is in jail on charges of sexual molestation of a minor, has been moved to September 9 because additional charges are likely, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.
"We have three new investigations," said Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. "There are three alleged new victims."
Mr. Giordano, 59, has been a physical education teacher at Jordan Middle School in Palo Alto since the early 1990s. He was arrested August 18 after a 28-year-old woman -- described by Menlo Park police as a former student of Mr. Giordano's and a former babysitter for his son -- reported a sexual relationship that Mr. Giordano had begun with her when she was 14 and that lasted until she was 17.
The woman said she recalled the relationship during a counseling session in 2005, said Mr. Wagstaffe.
Currently, Mr. Giordano is facing 28 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a 14- or 15-year-old child, said Melissa McKowan, a deputy district attorney who is prosecuting the case. New charges would likely result in bail at or above the current temporary bail of $1 million, she said.
Mr. Giordano has taught at Jordan since 1991 and likely started as a substitute teacher in the Palo Alto Unified School District in 1978, said district associate superintendent Marilyn Cook, adding that he is now on unpaid administrative leave due to the nature of the charges.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Sgt. Simpson at 330-6342.
