People: New fundraising director for M-A High
(August 31, 2005) M-A parent and Menlo Park resident Cindy Folker is the new director of development at the Menlo-Atherton High School education foundation, otherwise known as the Foundation for the Future.
Ms. Folker starts September 1 and takes over from Angela McIntire, who held the job since 1998. Incoming foundation president Anne Peck said in a statement that Ms. Folker brings "experience, energy, vision (and) demonstrated commitment" to M-A.
Her experience, in addition to being a foundation member, includes serving on the site council at Oak Knoll and Hillview schools and on the PTA as president at Oak Knoll and M-A. She has been a school volunteer for 13 years.
Ms. Folker is married and has two sons, one at M-A and one at Hillview. She was chosen for the director's position by a search committee.
The foundation's purpose is to advance student learning, achievement and expression on a well-staffed, well-equipped campus.
Duncan Matteson named Significant Sig
Duncan L. Matteson of Menlo Park has been awarded the Significant Sig Award by Sigma Chi fraternity. Mr. Matteson is a 1956 graduate of the University of Missouri
Mr. Matteson was recognized by Sigma Chi for his career in real estate and banking, including his role as chairman of the national Multi-Housing Council, based in Washington, D.C.
He was founding chairman of Mid-Peninsula Bank, which joined forces to form Greater Bay Bancorp, where he continues to serve as chairman.
In addition, he was selected for his public service as chairman of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation board of trustees, co-founder of the Housing Industry Foundation, and co-chairman with his wife, Shirley, of the Stanford University Medical Center Cardiology Fund Development Program.
Sigma Chi fraternity was founded at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1855. Today there are 219 Sigma Chi chapters and 145 Sigma Chi alumni groups across North America.
Judith Brooks opens Re/Max Pioneer office
Judith Brooks, who is the broker/owner of two Re/Max Pioneer real estate offices in Woodside, and one in Redwood City, opened a fourth Re/Max Pioneer office in Saratoga on July 9.
Co-owners are Hans Cheuk, owner of Nationwide Funding in Cupertino, and Bobby Sarnevesht, a luxury home developer in Saratoga and Los Gatos. The office is located at 20398 and 20454 Blauer Drive.
Ms. Brooks has been broker/owner of the Re/Max Pioneer group since 1993. Her Woodside offices are located at 2920 Woodside Road and 17285 Skyline Blvd.
Hunter Bergner joins Coldwell Banker
Hunter Bergner, who previously worked in residential construction and leasing, including for Woodmont Property Management, has joined the El Camino Real office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Menlo Park.
Mr. Bernger will be a sales associate with the firm, said Wendy McPherson, Menlo Park manager for Coldwell Banker.
Menlo Park dentist receives award
Chaulong T. Nguyen, who practices dentistry in Menlo Park, has received the Fellowship Award from the Academy of General Dentistry, the Chicago-based organization announced. The award is given to those who completed 500 hours of continuing dental education, pass a written exam, and fulfill three years of continuing membership with AGD.
