Portola Valley building inspector resigns Portola Valley building inspector resigns (August 31, 2005)

The town of Portola Valley may be a while without a staff building inspector after the August 12 resignation of Brent Hipsher, the town's only employee responsible for inspecting mechanical, electrical, plumbing and other aspects of home construction in town.

In an interview, Mr. Hipsher, with the town for five and a half years, said he was leaving because he had a better opportunity in Milpitas.

He spoke warmly of the contractors he interacted with and of Portola Valley, noting that residents regularly recognized him in his personal car and waved.

"I really liked the community," he said. "I loved the contractors. I loved the type of projects that we do."

Until the town hires a new building official, San Mateo-based CSG Consultants -- which stood in for Mr. Hipsher during his time off -- will perform inspections, said Town Administrator Angela Howard.
