Basketball team makes national tourney
(September 07, 2005) The Payes Place basketball team for girls under age 11 recently competed in a national basketball tournament held in Springfield, Missouri.
It is the first local girls team to qualify for a national AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) tournament, said Bill Hooper , who coaches the Paye's Place team with John Paye. At the tournament, the team finished 60th out of 80 teams from all over the country.
Local players who qualified include Menlo Park residents Emily Dorst, Sarah Mitchell, Lauren Espeseth, Emma Paye, Whitney Hooper and Dalila Adofo; and Portola Valley resident Natasha Von Kaeppler.
