Former teacher sentenced for affair with teen student
(September 07, 2005)
Rebecca Ann Boicelli, a former Redwood City teacher and Menlo Park resident
who had a baby with a former teenage student, was sentenced Thursday to
two years in state prison, the result of a plea bargain, the San Mateo County
district attorney's office reported.
Ms. Boicelli, 33, pleaded no contest to one count of lewd acts upon a
child. She was charged with three counts of lewd acts upon a child and
one count of unlawful intercourse with a minor, who was 16 when the infant
was conceived and 14 when the relationship began, according to Chief Deputy
District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. As part of the plea bargain, the other
charges were dropped.
Ms. Boicelli was arrested January 20 after an extensive investigation, and a DNA paternity test confirmed that the teen fathered the baby, born in June.
Ms. Boicelli, who has been in jail since her arrest, has seven to eight months left on her term, Mr. Wagstaffe said. She will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life after her release from prison, he said.
The teenage father and his parents in Menlo Park are caring for the child, Mr. Wagstaffe said.
