Around Town: Healthy Kids benefit
(September 07, 2005) Hall of Fame football coach Bill Walsh will be one of the hosts for the fourth annual Healthy Kids wine tasting benefit from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 25, at Thomas Fogarty Winery, 19501 Skyline Blvd. in Woodside.
The benefit supports Santa Clara County's Healthy Kids health insurance program.
Dr. Thomas Fogarty, Bert George and Eric Brandenburg are also hosting the event.
Wines from regional wineries, plein air painters, a buffet dinner, and live and silent auctions will be featured. Tickets are $200. For information, call 408-874-1912 or visit healthykidsfund.org.
Peninsula Volunteers
The Peninsula Volunteers' first general meeting of the fall will be held Friday, September 9, at the Stanford Park Hotel. The luncheon will be a kickoff for "Noche Tropical" (Hot Havana Night), the PV's gala, to be held Saturday, October 1, at the Palo Alto Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Kimber Sturm of Menlo Park, guest speaker at the luncheon, will talk about night life in Cuba. Sandy Ferrando of Atherton will present a fashion show of Latin-inspired designs. The Bossa Nova singers will entertain in the hotel's courtyard. For information, call 366-5463.
Ragazzi auditions
The Ragazzi Boys Chorus will hold auditions for boys between the ages of 7 and 11 from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, and Wednesday, September 14, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 178 Clinton St., Redwood City. Audition appointments may be made by calling 342-8785. No singing experience is necessary.
New singers join the training or primary groups, which rehearse once a week for two hours.
Ragazzi Boys Chorus, founded in 1987, includes 130 singers from 86 schools in the Bay Area. Ragazzi means "kids" in Italian. The term is used in Italian opera to designate children's voices.
