School Notebook: Neighbors meet on Phillips Brooks School Notebook: Neighbors meet on Phillips Brooks (September 07, 2005)

Neighbors of Phillips Brooks School are invited to attend a community meeting to look at and discuss designs for a fence-like barrier that could include landscaping and that would run along the Avy Avenue side of the 4.5-acre campus in Menlo Park.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 7 at the school at 2245 Avy Avenue. Neighbors unable to attend this meeting can call Joyce Massaro at 854-4545, ext. 113, to arrange another time to meet.

The school leases the campus from the Las Lomitas Elementary School District. In May, school officials met with neighbors to talk about traffic flow and on-site parking, aspects of an overall plan to replace portable classrooms with several new buildings. Enrollment would not increase under the plan.
Drinking fountains flow in La Honda

Bottled water may still be seen on the campus of La Honda Elementary School in La Honda, but it will likely be a choice rather than a necessity.

Work on a new tap-water supply to the school was completed in July and the valves will officially open at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 8, in celebration of the return of functioning drinking fountains.

Harmful bacteria from livestock waste were found in the original well in the late 1990s, forcing the school to bring in hand-sanitizing liquid and bottled water. A new pipe was laid from the nearby Cuesta La Honda Guild water system.
