Chamber names 2005 Acorn award winners
(September 14, 2005) An educator, a minister, a businessmen, the nonprofit Haven Family House and a Menlo-Atherton High School graduate are this year's recipients of the Golden Acorn Awards, bestowed by the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce.
They are:
Mike Moore, principal of Hillview Middle School in Menlo Park, for his 20 years of service to children and families in Menlo Park.
The Rev. Frank VanderZwan of the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church for 18 years of community service and outreach programs in the community and abroad.
Roy Borrone , owner of Cafe Borrone in the Menlo Center, for "business excellence."
Haven Family House in Menlo Park for providing temporary housing and services for homeless families.
Spencer Strub, a graduate of Menlo-Atherton High School in June and now a freshman at Harvard, is the winner of the annual Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce Scholarship, formerly known as the Jerry Jacobs Scholarship. Spencer was editor-in-chief of the M-A newspaper and volunteered at the Menlo Park and Redwood City libraries and as a clerk with a medical organization.
The awards will be presented Thursday, September 29, at the chamber's 33rd annual banquet at the Stanford Park Hotel, 100 El Camino Real in Menlo Park. The event runs from 6 to 9:30 p.m. and is open to the public at $75 a person. For more information, call the chamber at 325-2818.
