Woodside: Barn Dance returns to Runnymede

Organizers are expecting a sellout once again, when the Woodside Barn Dance returns to Runnymede Sculpture Farm on October 8.
The last two times the Woodside Recreation Committee hosted the party in 2001 and 2003, the guest list maxed out at 500. Committee chairman Richard Mainz anticipates another sellout.
"As usual the Woodside Rec. is going to put on another spectacular community event," he says, because the entertainment appeals to all ages, and will be sprinkled throughout the 3 to 8 p.m. timeframe.
Over the years, the party has grown to include fire truck rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, art tours, line-dancing lessons, live music, and an old-fashioned barbecue.
In addition, locals such as Western riding legend Eddie Cohen will put on a roping demonstration, and Jean Williams of Woodside will have her horses pull a large wagon for hayrides.
Mr. Mainz says they will be a fitting end to the Day of the Horse celebration going on in Woodside all day long.
Woodside Elementary eighth-graders will paint faces, and the school's art teacher, Bev Iverson, will lead tours of many of the modern sculpture pieces dotting the Rosekrans family's property.
Back by popular demand, the River Rats, the La Honda-based band that played rock and roll and country music at the last two Woodside Barn Dances, will perform in the old dairy barn at Runnymede.
Mr. Mainz says he's particularly grateful to the Rosekranses for hosting the party, and to co-sponsors W.L. Butler General Contractors, RE/MAX Pioneer Realtors of Woodside, Coldwell Banker real estate agent Erika Demma, and Buck's of Woodside.
Tickets cost $35 for adults, $20 for children under age 14 (they will receive a free bandana), and $95 for a family of five.
Tickets must be purchased in advance, by September 30, or until sold out. Order forms are available at Woodside Elementary, Buck's, and Town Hall, or can be downloaded from WoodsideRec.com. For more information, call 851-3534.
