A jazz party for hurricane victims
(September 21, 2005) Jan Zones of Atherton wanted to do something more for victims of Hurricane Katrina, other than sending a check. So she is doing something she does very well ... giving a party.
Ms. Zones is hosting a garden party from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, October 2, at Ms. Zone's Atherton home. The T.J. Politzer Duo will play New Orleans-style jazz and Mississippi blues. Wine, champagne and hors d'ouevres will be served.
Admission will be a $50 check made payable to the Salvation Army. A flier says $100 will feed a family of four for two days, provide two cases of drinking water, and one household clean-up kit containing brooms, mops, buckets and cleaning supplies.
In more than 40 years in Atherton, Ms. Zones has given lots of parties. She has been on the board of the San Francisco Ballet for 37 years, hosted A.C.T.'s first fundraiser, and is a longtime member of the Peninsula Volunteers.
She has a large garden and is hoping to greet at least 200 guests.
Checks made payable to the Salvation Army may be sent to Hurricane Katrina Jazz Benefit, P.O. Box 4058, Menlo Park, CA 94026-4058, or presented at the door.
A RSVP is required by calling 322-6116 or visiting AthertonSupportsNew Orleans@Hotmail.com. The location will be announced to those who respond.
"Bring on the crowds!" says Ms. Zones.
