Kathleen Scutchfield gives $3 million to POST Kathleen Scutchfield gives $3 million to POST (September 28, 2005)

Kathleen Scutchfield, a Woodside resident and former Planning Commission member, has made a $3 million donation to the Peninsula Open Space Trust's "Saving the Endangered Coast" campaign, a spokeswoman for POST said last week.

"The coast is a spectacular, unspoiled swath of land we're so lucky to have a half-hour away," Ms. Scutchfield said. "If this land were available to be developed, it would be developed."

Ms. Scutchfield's gift brings POST within $7 million of its goal of $200 million to preserve 20,000 acres of Coastside open space, said spokeswoman Ann Sharman.

If POST raises another $4.5 million by December 31, they will receive a $1.75 million Kresge Foundation challenge grant, said POST president Audrey Rust.

Ms. Scutchfield was born and raised in Texas, and has lived in Woodside since 1973. She cofounded the nonprofit AIDS research and education organization Until There's a Cure, and is a trustee emeritus of the San Francisco Ballet. She is also an avid equestrian.

POST is a Menlo Park-based nonprofit land trust working to preserve open space on the Peninsula.
