Sunset magazine will open its so-called "zero-energy" home in east Menlo Park to the public on October 7. The home produces as much energy as it consumes, Sunset says.

Labeled a "green-built idea house," the home is next door to an identical house with sections of the floors, walls and ceilings cutaway to expose the materials the building is made of.

The houses are located in Belle Haven on Hamilton Avenue between Henderson Avenue and Chilco Street.

They will be open Fridays through Sundays, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. through January 22, 2006. General admission is $12. Call (800) 786-7375 for more information.
