Chamber presents Golden Acorn Awards
(October 05, 2005) Golden Acorn Awards were presented September 29 at the annual banquet of the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce, held this year at the Stanford Park Hotel.
Spencer Strub, a Menlo-Atherton High School graduate and now a freshman at Harvard, won the Outstanding Student Award and $3,000 for his first year at college.
Haven Family House on Van Buren Road in Menlo Park, which provides housing and services for homeless families, won the Community Service Organization Award.
Mike Moore, principal of Hillview Middle School in Menlo Park for 20 years, won the Educator/Public Service Award.
The Rev. Frank VanderZwan, a pastor at the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, won the Outstanding Community Service Award.
Cafe Borrone in Menlo Center won the Albert J. Giannotti Award for Business Excellence.
Ron Derenzi, vice chair of Bank of the West, was master of ceremonies. Les Koonce of Koonce Financial Services was the event chair. Other members of the Golden Acorn Committee are: Daryl Camarillo, Stanford Park Nannies; Rick Ciardella, Ciardella Associates; Fran Dehn, Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce; Kevin Feltis, Flegel's Home Furnishings; Kerry Hoctor, Village Stationers; Terry Kent, Drexel Realty Services; Kevin Lanigan, Wiotel; Bob Larson, B.L.O. Pizza Enterprises; Spence Leslie, Tyco Electronics; Janine Mankin, Koonce Financial Services; Stuart Soffer, IPriori Inc.; and Andrew Tagg, Bank of the West.
