Coach Parks Field to be dedicated Saturday Coach Parks Field to be dedicated Saturday (October 12, 2005)

Coach Ben Parks, a living legend at Menlo-Atherton High School and in the community for his athletic coaching and public service, will be honored Saturday, October 15, when the recently renovated M-A football field is dedicated as Coach Parks Field.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. before the school's homecoming game when the M-A Bears varsity team takes on South San Francisco High School. Tickets to the game are $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.

Marc Rogers, a member of the M-A Class of 1974, took the lead in asking the Sequoia Union High School District to name the field after Coach Parks, M-A's head football coach from 1968 to 1984 and wresting coach from 1968 to 1999.

M-A athletes, students, parents and members of Coach Parks' workout group he called "The Wild Bunch" stepped forward to support this endeavor, Mr. Rogers said.

Coach Parks is being recognized not only as an athletic coach but as a positive and inspiring role model and a person who continually reaches out to help those in need, said Mr. Rogers.
