Parade, carnival, witches brew on tap
(October 26, 2005) Everyone is invited to come in costume and take part in the annual parade from the Menlo Park Burgess Recreation Center to Fremont Park, starting at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, October 29.
It's one of the highlights of local Halloween activities.
After the parade, from 1 to 3 p.m., those in costume may trick-or-treat at downtown Menlo Park stores that display trick-or-treat signs on their door.
There will be a Halloween Carnival from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Burgess Recreation Center, 700 Alma St. Activities are planned for children 12 and under. There's a $3 admission for kids; adults are admitted free. Hot dogs and beverages will be sold. For more information, call 330-2200.
Seniors will have their own party with a Halloween costume contest and free dessert buffet (everything from pumpkin pie to pumpkin ice cream) at 12:30 p.m. Monday, October 31, at the Menlo Park Senior Center, 110 Terminal Ave. For information, call 330-2280.
Atherton
The Atherton Police Department is offering glow necklaces to children on or before Halloween. The necklaces glow in the dark and last for several hours. The necklaces can be picked up at the front counter of the police station for free and include a list of safety tips for Halloween night.
Stanford Shopping Center
Stanford Shopping Center is putting on a Halloween Bash from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 31. The Simon Kidgits Club is hosting the party. Activities will include balloon artists, bowling for ghosts, spinning the wheel of Frankenstein, trick-or-treating, and "witches brew" root beer floats. For information, call 617-8585.
Halloween concert
It's "Bach from the Grave" as organist James Welch presents his 13th annual Halloween concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, October 29, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 600 Colorado Ave. in Palo Alto. Mr. Welch promises something for everyone, from medieval to modern, with ghostly gothic masterpieces from a dark cathedral. The concert lasts about an hour and is appropriate for families. A $10 donation is requested. For information, call 326-3800.
