School Notebook: Portola Valley trustees to name board member School Notebook: Portola Valley trustees to name board member (November 02, 2005)

Trustees of the Portola Valley School District will meet three times this week to: interview three candidates for the open seat on the board, decide who should fill the seat, and hold a study session on the district's strategic plan.

The interview session for board candidates Joseph W. Androlowicz, Donald S. Collat and Bradley J. Turner starts at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, and is a public meeting. Trustees will ask questions of the candidates in a round-robin format and may ask follow-up questions.

Trustees are scheduled to make the appointment to the board at their special meeting on Friday, November 4, at 8 a.m.

Since no one filed in August to run for election to the open seat, trustees were required to appoint a new board member by election day, November 8. The appointed candidate will take office December 7 when Trustee Deborah Rappaport's term ends.

A study session on the district's strategic plan, now being developed, is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 1.

All meetings will be held in Room 1001 at Corte Madera School, 4575 Alpine Road in Portola Valley.
Keeping children safe on the Internet

Helping parents keep children safe while using the Internet is the topic of the Portola Valley School District's "Speakers Series" program on Wednesday, November 9.

The program starts at 7 p.m. in the multi-use room at Ormondale School, 200 Shawnee Pass in Portola Valley.

A detective from the San Jose Police Department's Child Exploitation Division will tell real-life stories of the dangers and offer tips to keep children safe in an Internet-driven world.
