It was a tight race all around, but voters in the Woodside Elementary School District returned incumbent Bettina Pike to the Board of Trustees for another four-year term, and elected newcomers Karen Werner and Elianne Frenkel-Popell to the remaining two open seats.
Just 28 votes separated the candidates in the third- and fourth-place positions in the November 8 election. The three winning candidates had been endorsed by the Woodside Teachers Association.
Ms. Pike led with 696 votes, followed by Ms. Werner with 613 and Ms. Frenkel-Popell with 575. Ellen Ablow came in fourth with 546 votes.
This will be the second term for Ms. Pike, 39, who is the current president of the school board and the parent of four children, all attending Woodside. She has a bachelor's degree in economics from Yale University and spent 12 years on Wall Street before coming to Woodside.
Ms. Werner, 45, is the parent of three children at Woodside. She has a master's degree in education from Stanford University and her primary professional interest has been in technical training.
Ms. Frenkel-Popell, 37, is the parent of two children, both at Woodside, and has worked in education-related marketing positions. She attended kindergarten through eighth grade at Woodside and has a bachelor's degree in government from Harvard University.
With all 11 precincts reporting, the tallies include mail-in ballots counted by November 11. The final official results are expected from the county elections office by the end of November.
