Protecting trees on the Alameda
(December 21, 2005) Caption with picture in print edition: Surrounded by new iron security fences, new London plane trees are replacing six damaged saplings of the 37 saplings planted last year in the stretch of Alameda de las Pulgas between Harkins and Ashton avenues in West Menlo Park. The security fences are intended to protect the trees from cars backing out of nearby parking spaces. If the trees flourish, more fences and more replanting will come, said Robert Fitch, a gardener for the San Mateo County Public Works Department.
