Barbara John of the University of Wyoming will describe recent research on dating new crust of the Earth as it emerges in mid-ocean ridges at a program of the Peninsula Geological Society on Tuesday, January 10, at 7:30 p.m. at Stanford.

In her talk titled "Slow-Spreading Mid-Ocean Ridges: One Last Frontier in Plate Tectonics?" Dr. John will describe diving in a tiny submarine deep under the Indian Ocean to collect crystals of zircon from the ocean crust.

The program GeoCorner will be preceded by a reception in the Mitchell Building at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:15. Dinner tickets are $30 for most people, and $5 for students. The lecture is free.
