Menlo Park burglary suspect caught after foot chase through backyards
(January 11, 2006) Menlo Park police arrested a burglary suspect Sunday morning after a foot chase that included a fence-hopping dash through backyards in the area of Santa Cruz and Orange avenues.
Jason Kinder, 26, of Menlo Park, a wanted burglary suspect, was arrested and booked into the county jail on charges ranging from burglary to possession of a controlled substance, according to a Menlo Park police department report. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of stolen property, burglary tools, an illegal knife and methamphetamine, the report said.
Police were called to the area at about 8 a.m. January 8 after Mr. Kinder was spotted walking in the area. When police arrived, Mr. Kinder ran away, leading the officers on a chase, police said.
After a Santa Cruz Avenue resident ran outside his home saying the suspect was in his backyard, police chased Mr. Kinder over two fences, nabbing him on Nancy Way.
Mr. Kinder was wanted for several burglaries, auto thefts and reckless driving in Menlo Park, Mountain View and Palo Alto, police said.
He later confessed to committing two residential burglaries, seven auto burglaries and stealing a car, according to the police report. All of the crimes happened near Alameda de las Pulgas in west Menlo Park in the past couple of weeks, the report said.
