Former Almanac intern wins Daniel Pearl internship
(January 11, 2006) Stanford University senior and former Almanac intern Camille Ricketts has been named the 2006 Daniel Pearl Memorial Journalism Intern. Ms. Ricketts, an intern at The Almanac in the summer of 2003, will work in the London bureau of the Wall Street Journal this summer.
Ms. Ricketts is editor-in-chief of the Stanford Daily and is majoring in history with a concentration in women's studies.
The internship was established to commemorate the work and ideals of Daniel Pearl, a Stanford alumni and Wall Street Journal foreign correspondent who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in 2002.
A committee of faculty members from Stanford's communications department evaluated applicants for the internship. The final decision was made by the Wall Street Journal.
Ms. Ricketts, who is from Fremont, has also held journalism internships in the Washington bureau of Knight Ridder, the San Francisco Bay Guardian, and Stanford Magazine.
