Menlo Park: Draft reports due on hotels
(January 25, 2006) By Rory Brown
Almanac Staff Writer
Checkpoints for two Menlo Park hotel proposals are just around the corner.
The draft environmental impact report (EIR) for a proposed 265,000-square-foot hotel and office complex off Sand Hill Road will be released January 31, and the public has until February 27 to comment on the report.
Stanford University and Dallas-based Rosewood Hotels and Resorts are teaming up to construct the 120-room hotel and its five extended-stay villas. Plans for the site also include a fitness center and restaurant.
In July, a group of about 40 people attended a public scoping session on the proposed hotel, many of whom feared substantial traffic impacts.
The project is planned for the vacant site near the Sand Hill Road/Interstate 280 intersection.
Send comments on the draft EIR to dmchow@menlopark.org.
Bohannon project
A hotel planned for the other side of town is also nearing an important juncture.
Bohannon Development Co. is proposing a 125-room hotel, an associated fitness center, several restaurants and about 514,543 square feet of office space near Marsh Road and U.S. 101.
A draft EIR for the project could be ready as soon as February, said Justin Murphy, the city's development services manager.
The proposal calls for the rezoning of two sites -- 100-190 Independence Drive and 101-135 Constitution Drive -- to mixed-use commercial business park. The sites total 13.5 acres.
The entire project could take 15 to 20 years to complete, according to David Bohannon, the company's president and CEO.
