Developers to unveil ideas for El Camino Real sites
(February 01, 2006) By Rory Brown

Three developers say they would like to give El Camino Real in Menlo Park a much needed shot in the arm.
Possible plans for three sites abandoned by auto dealerships will be introduced at a Menlo Park City Council study session, starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, at the council chambers.
The sites are the former Cadillac dealership at 1300 El Camino Real; the former Anderson Chevrolet car lot at 300 El Camino, next to Stanford Park Hotel; and the former Anderson truck lot across the street, said David Johnson, the city's business development manager.
A combination of retail space and housing are being planned for the former Cadillac site and the Anderson truck lot, and the Stanford Park Hotel is considering building a conference center on the former Anderson car lot adjacent to the hotel, said Mr. Johnson.
In addition, city staff will present updates on current projects:
** The recently approved renovations to the Safeway grocery store.
** A proposal by developer John Beltramo to build a 26,800-square-foot office building and 16 townhouses at 1460 El Camino.
** Plans to build 135 rental units and 17,000 square feet of commercial space on Oak Grove Avenue and Derry Lane, between El Camino Real and the Caltrain station.
"We want a mix of uses along El Camino that will make it a great place to live, work, shop and play," Mr. Johnson said.
MEETING
The El Camino Real study session will start at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, in the council chambers at the Menlo Park Civic Center, between Alma and Laurel streets. Updates on this story, and other breaking news will be posted online at AlmanacNews.com.
