'Anne Frank' on stage at Menlo Middle School
(February 08, 2006) Eighth-graders at Menlo Middle School will present three performances of "The Diary of Anne Frank" on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, February 10-12, in the Middle School Commons on the school campus at 50 Valparaiso Ave. in Atherton.
The diary, written in the Amsterdam attic where Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis for two years, has become a world classic.
This Menlo production begins in the Holocaust Museum and moves back to the Frank attic in Amsterdam.
Veteran drama teacher Alex Perez directs the cast of 10 eighth- graders in the performances at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
Andi Stein of Belmont has the role of Anne Frank. Her parents are played by David Harris of Atherton and Shelby Rachleff of Portola Valley. Ashley Britts of Atherton has the role of Anne's sister, Margot.
Rounding out the cast are Ben Adler as Peter Van Daan; Souhail Salty and Zoe Bjornson as Peter's parents; Annie as Miep Gies; Matthew Crowder as Mr. Kraler; and Logan Richard of Los Altos Hills as Mr. Dussel.
Theatergoers are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance because productions directed by Mr. Perez often sell out, and seating is limited. Tickets -- at $5 for students and $7 for adults -- are available now at the Menlo Bookstore and by sending an e-mail to tickets@menloschool.org.
