Food: Lulu's holds grand opening Monday in Palo Alto

Lulu's taqueria at Town & Country Village in Palo Alto will have its grand opening on Monday, March 9. Its sister taqueria, Lulu's on the Alameda, has been a hit with Menlo Park diners since it opened in 2003.

The new Lulu's will be take-out only, but there will be outdoor seating. It will feature traditional burritos, tacos, tamales, enchiladas and salads, along with dishes based on family recipes from chef Lourdes, the original Lulu.

Vintage Affaire set for June 27

Wine lovers mark your calendars. The 27th annual Vintage Affaire will be held Saturday, June 27, in the gardens of an Atherton estate. It will be an afternoon of wine tasting, silent and live wine auctions, music, and an elegant dinner. Vintage Affaire benefits the Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

I am not impressed with Lulu's grand opening. They advertised a free burrito on their opening day, and apparently decided after a while that they were giving out too many and rescinded the offer.

They are the most expensive take out burrito place in the area, and have created a huge amount of bad press by not thinking through their advertising in advance and instead turning away many many people who I'm sure will not likely go back.

Don't look for this place to be in business long.
