Sacred Heart Prep has a bye in its football schedule this week, which may be a good thing for its opponents. The Gators are off to a 3-1 start and are averaging 31.2 points a game while allowing just 18.
Sacred Heart Prep scored more than 40 points for the second straight time last Saturday in a 42-21 nonleague triumph over visiting Silver Creek. The Gators rushed for 337 yards, the third time this season they’ve gone over the 300-yard mark.
Senior Chris Gaertner led the Gators with 177 yards on just five carries. He scored on runs of 91 and 70 yards to account for much of his total. Quarterback Colin Terndrup and running back Matt Walter combined for another 98 yards on the ground.
When Sacred Heart Prep returns to action on Oct. 9, it will begin its first-ever season in the PAL Bay Division. First up will be a very solid test against visiting Terra Nova at 3 p.m. The Tigers are among the contenders that include King’s Academy and Aragon.
If Sacred Heart Prep wants to be included in that group, it will have to beat Terra Nova for starters.
