“The Wife of Bath,” a Canterbury tale by Geoffrey Chaucer, will be staged in a free performance for the public at The Sequoias retirement community at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at 501 Portola Road in Portola Valley.

The tale involves a prologue in which the wife tells of her experiences with her five husbands, followed by a tale of a crime of passion and a knight’s quest to find the answer to the question of what women really want.

The performance in Hanson Hall by the Geoffrey Chaucer & Co. Theatre Group of San Rafael will include medieval costumes and original music. For more information, go to www.chaucertheatre.org.
