Saturday: Volunteer to restore salt ponds


People who want to help restore the Ravenswood Salt Pond at the western edge of the Dumbarton Bridge can join a volunteer effort at the pond on Saturday, Jan. 9, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The effort is part of a multi-agency project aimed at restoring 15,100 acres of commercial salt ponds to its original state as wetlands. The project got under way in March 2009; it will open the pond to visitors, through the installation of trails and viewing platforms.
