A Regional Heritage photo of the three ice skaters on the Skylonda pond brought back memories for Ralph Collins, of Portola Valley, whose family lived in the area and were the proprietors of Collins Skylonda Store (on the site now occupied by Alice's Restaurant) from 1941 to 1950. In the original caption, only Norma Oswald, at left, was identified. Mr. Collins supplied the names of Peg Bolton, the skater at far right, and Janet Adams, in the center. All lived in Skylonda at the time and obviously enjoyed taking advantage of the unusual hard freeze in 1949 that turned the Skylonda reservoir into a skating rink. Photo by Ralph Oswald.
