Project Read schedules tutor training sessions

Training for those wishing to volunteer as tutors in the Project Read-Menlo Park program will take place Wednesday, Jan. 27, and Saturday, Jan. 30.

The Jan. 27 session is set for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.; the Jan. 30 training will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The location for the sessions will be determined soon.

A third session is set for March 10, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., to allow new tutors to meet and discuss ideas, and ask questions about specific challenges they may be having since beginning their work with a student.

Volunteers are asked to attend all three sessions, but video-taped and DVD training is available if there's a scheduling conflict.

Project Read offers free, one-on-one tutoring to adults who can't read or who need to improve their English reading, speaking and writing skills. No experience is necessary for tutors, who are supplied with all materials needed to work with students.

For more information, or to sign up as a tutor, call 330-2525. Or drop by the Project Read office in the Menlo Park Library at 800 Alma St.
